ABOUT ACCYFS
African Canadian Children Youth & Family Services (ACCYFS) is a culturally grounded, community-focused organization dedicated to supporting Black children, youth, adults, and families across Ontario, the Caribbean, and Africa. Guided by the principle that “It takes a village to raise a child,”

M. Washington, M.Ed.
M. Washington is an educator, community advocate, and youth development leader with more than two decades of frontline and strategic experience supporting youth, families, and community systems across Canada.
Holding a Degree in Education and a Master of Education, Mr. Washington brings both academic expertise and lived community experience to his work. Since 2002, he has worked extensively with youth facing mental health challenges, school disengagement, justice involvement, and systemic barriers. His practice spans schools, child welfare systems, community organizations, faith-based institutions, and local businesses — building collaborative partnerships that strengthen outcomes for families.
Throughout his career, Mr. Washington has been recognized for his culturally grounded approach, leadership in community engagement, and commitment to anti-Black racism advocacy. His work bridges education, prevention, and intervention by integrating trauma-informed practice with culturally responsive frameworks.
He has led mentorship initiatives, youth rehabilitation programming, employment readiness strategies, and family stabilization models that prioritize dignity, accountability, and empowerment. His ability to connect across sectors — from school boards to grassroots organizations — has positioned him as a trusted voice in youth advocacy and community development.
At the core of his leadership philosophy is a belief that strong families build strong communities, and that prevention, identity affirmation, and economic empowerment are critical to youth success.
Mr. Washington continues to serve as a mentor, educator, and community strategist committed to transforming outcomes for the next generation.

ACCYFS provides culturally relevant, anti-oppressive, and trauma-informed services designed to strengthen families and foster long-term success. We proudly support anyone who identifies as Black—including African, Caribbean, Afro-Indigenous, Afro-Latinx, and Black Canadian families—recognizing the social, cultural, and historical factors that shape their lived experiences.

To engage and support Black families by delivering culturally relevant and culturally sensitive services that enhance family development in homes, schools, and communities.

To increase awareness, create equitable opportunities, and empower Black children, youth, and families by providing supportive strategies that promote growth, resilience, and lifelong success.
